Ruth Roman is the youngest child born to Lithuanian as well as Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. At the age of five her carnival barker father died which left Ruth's mother no option but to work as a cleaning lady and waitress in order to provide for the family. Ruth attended the school in Boston's poorest tenement area. She left the school she attended within two years of her education in pursuit of the profession of acting. Her path to success turned out be filled with challenges: in New York, she obtained an opportunity to pose for stills for a magazine about crime However, the stage was not a match for her. After that, she was the hat checker in an evening club, before deciding to call the shots and moving back to Boston. The New England Repertory Company was the first job she had as a regular actor. The company paid her performing during the daytime working as an Usherette. She also been accepted into Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she studied drama.
